RELIGION AS THE PRIME CONCERN IN INDIA: SWAMI VIVEKANANDA
What is the secret of this strength? Believe of when I say, after my experience of the world, it is here. To the other nations of the world, religion is one of the many occupations of the world, and among all there various occupations of life, there is perhaps a bit of religion. But here in India religion is the one and the only occupation in life. This has been the case with up for the past several millenniums, and as a consequence our culture and national genius have derived a special cent or direction in which alone they are bound to travel now and in the future also. Each race, by virtue of its part, has such a bent, a peculiar raison detre, and a particular mission to fulfil in the life of the world. Political greatness or military power has never been mission of our race. But there has been the other mission given to us, which is to conserve, to preserve, to accumulate, as it were, into a dynamo, all the spiritual energy of the race, and that concentrated energy is to soup forth in deluge on the world, whenever circumstances are propitious. Let the Persian, or the Greek, the Romans or the Arab, or the Englishman march his battalions, conquer the world, and link the different nations together, and the philosophy and spirituality of India is ever ready to flow along the newly made channels into the veins of the nations of the world. The Hindus calm brain must soup out its own quota to the sum-total of human progress. India's gift to the world is the light spiritual.

East Meets West: Cosmology Then And Now - QUINCY, FRANCE, June 6, 2005:
Eastern religious traditions can provide us with new cosmological insights, read this interesting article at "source." Some ancient astronomers seemed to have arrived at the conclusion that the creation of the universe, its growth, its eventual decay and regeneration are eternal processes without a beginning and without an end, repeating in endless cycles. The Hindus named each half cycle a night or day of Brahma in symbolic terms. There is also the mention of a transition or a twilight zone referred to as Yugasandhi between these half cycles. The point of interest to us here is that the metaphor extends to some amazing mathematical details. According to the Hindu scriptures, each half cycle is said to last for 4.32 billion years. The Sun, too, revolves around the center of our galaxy once in 325.5 million years. Modern science pegs this in the range of 225 to 270 million years. The point of departure between ancient Hindu cosmology and modern cosmology is that unlike modern cosmology, ancient Hindu cosmology relates the rotational speed of our own galaxy to the period of oscillation of the endless cycles of creation, growth and eventual decay. Our known galaxy is known as Parameshti Mandala, and it is said to rotate around Svayambhu Mandala, the center of all galaxies with a time period of 4.32 billion years, also.

Your heart is the temple where God should be enshrined. Your good thoughts are the flowers, your good words the hymns, your good deeds the rituals. And love is the offering.
